Default Learned a trick when replacing my jiffy

Thought Id share a trick I learned when I swapped out my chrome jiffy for a black one. Worked like a charm:

Clever trick. I wonder how the factory does it?

I've got a pivot block replacement in my future. It's wallered out pretty good from 18 years of use.

I use a screwdriver to put the spring back on or my brake drum spring tool.

I've done both of those methods, both worked, but were a pain in the ***. I tried the washer method last time I had to replace a spring. Worked well.

Not many people have a Drum Brake spring tool laying around any more. Not a lot of people who still work on drum brakes.

I find that if I remove the jiffy stand from the bracket, hook both ends of the spring, with the jiffy stand pointing toward the front, I can pull the Jiffy stand enough to insert it into the bracket, flip it to the up position and install the top key and bolt.

Yeah I don't do drum brakes often anymore, but always keep tools like that they can be really useful. I actually put a stove spring back on with it.

I am going to try the washer method next time I do it, because it is a smart way to do it.

I've got a spring tool, cheap...put spring on somewhat like ranger said. The washers (or coins) works well, too. When I had the stand off the wifes Low Rider, to add to the tab so bike would rest more upright, I also fitted an oillite bushing in the block. Smooth and no slop now!

I have to keep the drum tools handy. Wife's 2003 Dodge van has rear drums. Also, my 1962 Chevy truck has 4 wheel drums.
