I have a 2016 FXDL-S and would like to change the bars but as many of you know it comes as standard with Throttle by wire which limits the choice of after market bars which all seen very expensive and very hard to get over here in the UK
Has anyone removed the Throttle by wire set up and replaced it with the cable set up ?
You could just extend the TBW harness to meet any length requirements you have, rather then messing with a system integral to you ecm. Even if possible, you'd lose cruise control, which I find great to have...
Pretty sure you can get extensions of whatever length you could realistically need. Also, there is a lot of extra wire in the frame, have you looked to see if there is enough?
Seems to me that cutting two notches in a bar is a hell of a lot easier then altering a functional design of a motor...
If you aren't confident in your own ability, bring your bar of choice to a machine shop and have them cut it. Probably cost you less then a few pints. Specs are on the bottom of the page Dan89 posted.
Edit: see they're 1" diameter. The design looks pretty common. I'm sure if you look you can find similar bars that'll fit.
Edit again: you may be able to find a local seller for these? 1.25" and pre-cut for tbw. Look at eBay.co.uk?
Changing from TBW to mechanical is probably a very involved project. Just at a guess...new throttle body, new ECM, new wire harness, new RH switch housing, new cables, maybe more...
