TL, would you send me pictures of the boxes and any labels on them? I want to write a letter to the HD Museum to see if someone can research how many sets were made. Back then I dont even think HD painted them...I think Gunslinger Paint in Colorado did it for them. I contacted Gunslinger but they really werent helpful. I do have the part number for the paint. Dying to know how many sets. Someone told me 50. Gunslinger said more like 150? Either way, rare. The paint set was the cover bike for 2000 P&A catalog. I have a copy.
To be honest I don't even know I have them in the original boxes they came in I just don't remember anymore I will have to look it's a possibility though I have several sets of sheet metal four different models but lies far as being rare I was told there were several thousand sets made and that's why they're not number because they are not that rare but I really don't know for sure? But I will check when I get home to see if they are the original boxes and let you know but unfortunately I won't be able to do that for a few weeks cuz I'm on the road working I would like to know myself I modified my front fender where it mounts to the lower legs because I put a dual disc setup on my wide glide I used to lower legs from a bagger and had proves machined in the top for the dust covers for the fork seals that looks freaking killer it was nice! I will let you know!
i'm doubtful it was thousands, as i have never seen another in person, at Daytona or Sturgis. i saw one on Craigslist a year or two ago. i'm going to write to the HD Museum and hopefully get an answer.
Like I said I really don't know because there are no numbers or markings on any the sheet metal and I was always told and led to believe anything that was custom or limited number would be marked in Subway and as I understand which would make it a very limited amount is that they were painted to order so that would even make it more limited than the number traduction sheet metal so with that being said I would think it would be very rare but nobody can verify everything?that I have spoken with anyway if you find out please let me know cuz I know after I bought my wife lied in 2000 I had to have been sheet metal and I bought it! Cuz I worked for Harley-Davidson at the time before I left them and open my own shop read again please let me know!
Just bought this awesome 2000 DWG with this custom HD paint set. I did some research and found out it's called Candy Sunset Fade. Wondering if anyone knows how many of these sets were made and whether they were made for any model other than the Wide Glide?
I realize this is an Old Post but they were not made for any bike other than the wide glide it was exclusively for the Wi-Fi and I have the same exact set I ordered when I bought a 2000 white glide I needed to buy that separate so I do not think there are very many I think that it's only who wanted them ordered them they did not make a number set as in the other ones are they one out of 500 etc so there may even be a smaller number of these but I just recently bought another older white glide that I'm going to put the sheet metal on it and recreate the bike that I had in 2000!
Just a guess on the custom paint sets are usually around 200 or so, not in the thousands. I look for paint jobs like that at rallies and rarely see then especially the one mentioned in this thread, nice find.
So i went back to the HD Museum folks and actually got a hand-written response from them advising that this paint set was actually painted by Calibre Paint near Milwaukee. I reached out to Calibre. Unfortunately just as i was contacting them they were going out of business -owner retired. So i still dońt have a true answer but i am hopeful to try to get to the retired owner to see if an accurate number can be found.
