Default Question about custom paint jobs?

Curious to see how many people have had their tins customed painted? Thinking it would be cool to have my FXDF something other than black.. On average what did you guys pay so I have a basic idea of cost.

Thanks in advance

Buy another set of tins, and then paint those. It all depends on what you get.

I don't consider it custom paint if the painter does it as a canned set for whoever buys it and your is set 496 done.

Find a good painter....tell him the colors you would like and the look you are looking for and let the artist in him come out and make a one of a kind. I have done custom paint 3 times now and have discovered you will get the best job if you just tell them what you want and let their artistic abilities take over from there.

My gf is having this painted onto a spare tank we picked up at a flea market for $150. Stripping the tank, repairing one very, very small depression, and shooting it vivid black plus the airbrush work and then clear coat is going to run right around $1k.

I purchased pre-painted tins for $930.00 including shipping. I sold my OEM tins, which were Vivid Black, for $350.00. Out of pocket $580.00.

I have had custom paint work done, it's not cheap, but worth every penny IF it is unique.
On the new tins i will be putting on soon my GF is going to be doing the airbrush work, so it will be 1 of a kind...once I decide on a concept.

You can also save some dough by just having another base color done over the black. They can strip off the clearcoat and spray a new color. Blue over black looks great. I have seen a teal over a 100th anniv bike that rocked too. That changes the whole look of the bike without breaking the bank.

I'd prefer an air brush if I were going to do it. Buy some tins and tell a the artist to go to town.
