ok, i just change my oil on bike, 15500miles...and used revtech synthetic....i am going to change the primary too, with revtech chain oil....DO I HAVE TO GET A NEW SEAL ON THE CLUTCH COVER? i was also told to use blue locktight on screws
and the aircleaner,,,,,do i just take the filter out, and blow out the dust with my computer compressed air....and reinstall..thats it?
I don't know about the air filter questions but if you are careful with the derby cover seal you can re-use it several times. Look up how to change the primary oil on youtube for some good videos that explain re-using the gasket on the primary and pay attention to the torque on the primary screws, they take VERY little torque.
If the air cleaner element is the stock, dry paper filter, just swish it around in a bucket of water with a small amount of dishwash soap, then rinse it out with clear water and let it air dry for a day.
As to the clutch inspection cover, I bought a new seal for mine as I was not sure how long it had been in place (just bought the bike used in Feb) - and did not use loctite (was not called for in the service manual if I recall).
I did use proper torque as called for in the manual.
The LAST thing I would do is use Loctite. Way to many people have problems stripping threads without using it. Been using original seal since new in 07'
If you have the o-ring style seal and not the flat standard gasket, it can be reused many, many times. Don't thread lock the derby cover, you won't need it, and as previously mentioned, they don't take much torque to stay tight... so... One thing I 'did' do, is toss the POS torx bolts and replace with allen headed polished stainless.
