The ac will be tapped closer to the center so the fittings aren't visible, then I'll run lines over the top of the throttle body down to the left side so nothing is really visible unless you look close. I think I'm gonna use 3/8 hard line as well. Then I'll just empty the can every time I get fuel, and go to sleep knowing my engine is happy.
I will have to hook it up to the PV tonight and run it around town. I am in Colorado so we don't have super high temps all the time. I also have another bike, so I am not sure I would spend a ton of time or money messing with it, but I am interested to see how the temps change with your planned mods.

I think the oil cooler is probably going to be the most significant. I am not sure a 3/8 vent is going to do much for temperatures, definitely interested to see if how much if any change that provides. Have you seen any numbers from anyone that has done this before?

You know the other thing to consider is these bikes do have the EITMS system installed that shuts the rear cylinder down to bring the temp below 275. You may have to enable it by rolling the throttle forward for 3 seconds and waiting for the cruise light to flash green. I know mine is on after coming down the canyon last week. And you will know when it kicks on, feels like the bike is going to die. Mine came on sitting at a light at the bottom of the canyon but not again the rest of the 30 mile ride home.

Yea the vent to atmosphere mod should cost me about 15 bucks plus the cost of the catch can so it shouldn't be too pricey. However the 3/8 is referring to the size of the line I'm going to use. as far as numbers go without these mods goes, I haven't heard anyone else's specific numbers, just heard other people are running hot. I have been keeping track of my current temps for before/after numbers.

true but I definitely don't want to rely on the eitms. I don't know for sure, but I'm told it's bad for the eitms to come on on its own cause the bike is already running so hot.

I initially thought the same thing, but I can't imagine they would put it on the bike if it was that bad.

The only time it has ever come on for the Ultra was in downtown Sturgis when it was 95 and we were moving about 5 ft every 10 minutes. But the Ultra is also water cooled.

With the atmosphere vent, I would be concerned that drilling into the case may void warranty. Definitely interested to see how this all goes for you. Keep me posted. The dealer that I bought my bike from has done 3 or 4 of these LRS with the 117, I will ask the GM if they have seen any heat issues. I think here in CO, it may be more rare. I see you are in MI, the humidity and heat up there is bad in summer. I used to live in Mattawan when I was younger.

Congrats on the 117 CI upgrade.

I chose not to do it because my stock 110 CI already run hot as hell. Well not now with the Jaggs oil cooler and the LJ MM's.

Yeah, Nick mentioned he was going to add a vent to the case. I am assuming he would need to drill it to put the tap in there that he mentioned. I have never heard of doing this to a Harley, so I may have misinterpreted. His description of what he is doing is at the bottom of the second page.

Wow, oil cooler and LJ? Does it even get warm?

I feel like my old Fat Boy Lo with a 96 got hotter than this 117. It was pretty warm the other day, but nothing that would make want to spend 1k on cooling options. Where are you from?

Lucky you...

My 2016 LRS ran hot, fortunately I didn't need consensus about that. But I like the bike so the cost of the mods were moot compared to the likely future costs of repairs due to heat related wear and tear.

Late summer in MD is typically hot and humid.

I still think the LRS should come stock with an oil cooler at minimum.

Enjoy that 117 😉.
