Default Ipb - again!!!

Have a 2006 Dyna. Replaced the inner primary bearing in 2008. Guess what??? Yup, here we go again at 13,200 miles. H-D (dealer or HQ) would not help me at all last time, but will try again. That noise is unmistakable.

I replaced the inner cover with a cover from 2007 on my wifes old 06 Dyna. Also put in the baker bearing instead of the HD one. Guess what? It did it again. Long story short we sold the bike and bought her a 2014 Low Rider. I loved her Low Rider so much that I traded in my 2005 Night Train for a 2017 Low Rider S.
Not worred about IPB anymore.
Good luck.

I feel for you! I'm going through similar "2006" issues right now resulting from the stator/rotor bolts wiping out my stator and reeking havoc in the primary. I'm installing the Baker bearing for insurance. Also, I'm installing a manual chain tensioner, as the HD auto-tensioner is notorious for tightening the chain way too tight, which causes undo pressure on the shafts, which causes abnormal wear on bearings such as the IPB. So, while you're in there, chuck that HD auto-tensioner and get a manual one that won't over-tighten your chain and contribute to this mess again.

Some info and photos from when I did mine that might help: https://www.hdforums.com/forum/showt...eferrerid=9012

Rorin67, When I installed the Baker bearing I noticed that the slip fit was pretty loose, but I didn't think at the time to measure the outer diameter of the trans input shaft and the inner diameter of the Baker bearing. If you get a chance to measure them post the dimensions here, I'm curious what the actual slip fit is.

Appreciate the inputs. I was also thinking of using the newer inner cover with a Baker bearing, but who knows. I used a Drag Specialties bearing the last time. I will take measurements of the shaft and bearing when I get in there and let you all know.

Our other option if we were going to keep her bike was to go full on open primary.

But the bike was a gift to her from my dad, and she couldn't even touch ground flat footed. So after fixing the primary and still having to do the lowering stuff it made more sense to buy her a bike that really fit.

She used to ride her dads 79 Low Rider, but I got tired of working on the shovelhead. So when this new paint scheme came out we went for it.

not jacking your thread, just tellin ya why we didn't fix it a 3rd time

There's a trick to keeping a 2006 from having any troubles. Don't ride them!

Ha! I think the rotor bolts would still back-out over time, but you might get some extra time out of the IPB!

I like the opening of the hole.. I did the same on the opening but only opened it to the ribs and went hack to the stock bearing as it can handle more load.. On an 07 EGC. Original failed at 30K, It has 81K on it now..

The EGC failure was weird.. The inner race got some corrosion between the shaft and the inner race that swelled the race up.. I noticed the tight fit before the bearing failed while changing the pulley at about 15K.. Probably should have replaced it then..

Yeah, this is my last scooter so will probably keep it till the end. Don't ride much anymore, but all these 06 issues do suck, especially when they were known problems.
