Finally back on a dyna...... traded my softie for a switchback in April. The stock seat and passenger pad just don't cut it for day trips, so I pulled the trigger on a saddleman explorer with rider backrest (pricey) from Denniskirk.com
first impression out of the box, is a heavy duty quality made seat, easy to install and looks great. It's not too huge. Knowing that you'll sacrifice some looks for comfort didn't seem to be the case.
Took it out for about 150 miles today and got a great first impression. The seat sits about the same stretch as stock, and maybe 1" taller. I'm 6' if that gives a reference. Seat cradles the rider, and the backrest is wide and adjustable. I ride 16" apes, and hanging in to them no is no problem at all.
im excited to get my girlfriend on the back this weekend, as I know she'll love it. The backrest has a pouch on the back so passenger can put her phone and drink in there.
The seat still needs some breaking in, but has excellent tailbone relief built in. I fee like I'm back on my road king!
color of seat matches harley passenger backrest pad color perfectly.
highly recommended seat, and best money I've ever spent on an accessory so far. Hope this helps anyone contemplating buying this seat.
They do get even better after a little use. I can sit ALL day on mine now with zero discomfort and that's a good thing since I will be doing six 12-14 hour days in Colorado in about a week from now. Stock seat was good for 50 miles before agony set in. I have never had a passenger on my Saddleman so I can't speak for that part.
Thanks for the pics. Some questions if you don't mind...
What is your inseam? I'm 5'11" w/ 34" inseam and like legroom. Do you ever feel cramped in the seating position?
I've read users say that gel seats get really hot and retain heat. What is your experience with this seat with gel heat?
Backrest - Can you describe how the backrest is adjustable? Height, pitch, etc.? How does the backrest attached to the seat?
