Default Oil Pressure Switch Question

I have an oil pressure switch question.

I noticed a loose wire on the right side of my Low Rider S while cleaning up the bike this weekend (pictured). After calling the dealership, they said it is most likely the oil pressure switch and to stop on up for them to take care of it quick. The tech comes out and confirms that. He said to replace the wiring it would be the whole harness. He was able to get the wire back in the 90 degree angled connector and re-crimp it tight.

This is where my question come in… He had me turn the ignition on and asked if the oil light was on, it was. Started the bike, and it went off like normal. I told him the oil light was not on while the wire was off riding up either, so he unplugged it and we did the same process with the same outcome. I asked him why nothing different happened and he and the other tech that came out did not have a clear answer. They seemed dumbfounded and told me it would be fine.

So what exactly does this thing do? Should I not have seen something different happen with it unplugged/plugged? It is a new bike under warranty and want to make sure I shouldn't be worried.

Thanks!

According to the manual, this switch closes when oil pressure is lower than 3 psi. So, with the wire disconnected you shouldn't see the low pressure light.

However, remember, there are "computers" in there too. So there may be more logic in the system than just the switch. It's possible that when the engine is not running, regardless if the switch is open or closed, low pressure light gets set. Once the system detects the engine running, it may then revert to the state of the switch to operate the light. In which case, wire disconnected, no light. Looks normal even though it's not.

Making stuff up here but it's Monday and that's allowed on Mondays :-)

Thanks for the reply. That was my concern, it's not going to light up when there is actually and issue with oil pressure.

The light is on regardless with ignition on and engine not running. Like a few lights.

Fake it till you make it Monday

When you stop your engine does the light come on? Before you start your bike is the on? After the engine is started and running does the light go out? All three answers should be yes.
