No spark
to Summarize thus far:
Bike stopped running at Traffic lights, no cough or splutter, just as if id switched it off. and would not restart. Cranks but wont fire.
Roadside checked fuses and poked around a bit, but nothing obvious so I pushed the bike home.
ECM Diagnostics showed a CKP sync Error Code, Changed out the CKP for a new one but no change to starting problem. AND NO FURTHER ERROR CODES since changing the CKP and Clearing Codes.
Additionally, I dont have a garage or workshop any more, so Im doing all this on the sidewalk....
Checked and eliminated the following possible causes:
- Battery - Good Volts, under crank as well as standing.
- All Fuses - Good
- Senor voltages for all other sensors - good (Common supply so if one has a short they'd all be on the fritz)
- Continuity from CKP and TPS sensors through harness to ECM plug - Good
- Continuity tested back to ECM plug and reseated every other connector I could get to, and even a couple you shouldnt be abe to easily get to but i found a way.
- Coil - good
- Spark plugs - Good spark, changed them out anyway and still good spark, so that eliminates cables as well.
- Fuel injectors - test good with an Ohmmeter (12.2 ohms each) and are definitely delivering fuel to cylinders (wet plugs and smell gas when cranked with plugs out)
- Compression - Good
- Fuel pump primes when ignition switched on, Pump and sender, etc has to be OK as Im getting gas at the cylinders
- Good seal around air filter.
- Start and system relays - Good
- Got Gas in the tank (yes I did check just in case)
- Start/Run switches - good
Im thinking now its a timing issue, but the CKP change out "Should" have sorted that, unless there is something way bigger and nasty going on here.
The only things I haven't pulled and replaced are the MAP and TPS sensors, as I understand if either MAP or TPS were faulty then i'd at least get an attempt to fire.
I am not considering the TSSM or ECM at this stage since the Alarm disarms/Re arms as it should, (and recently new Fob batteries) and even with a dead ECM, with Spark, Gas, and Air present it should at least make an attempt at a bang.
I'm also hoping I'm not getting way to deep in my troubleshooting due to missing something small and simple.
You could still be right, but id need another coil to test it out properly and at this point I dont know anyone with a spare lying about to test with and I cant afford to run out and just buy parts to throw at the problem. (hence the reason Im trying to sort it instead of having a shop come collect the bike)
Plus, as frustrating as it is, i like the challenge...so far
But what is interesting now is that in the Diagnostics, under the P section it used to say "none", now its telling me "No Rsp" (no response). Run switch is on.
getting way down the rabbit hole......
