Hello, I am building a custom front end and need some insight. I have a set of 41mm forks off of a 2000 FXST and I need fork caps. Problem I am running into is that the threads in the tubes start about an inch down into the tube.
Most fork caps are too short to catch the threads and really to short to screw all the way in.
Does anyone know of flush mount caps that are longer ? I saw these and emailed them but they are unsure if they will work.
41 mm tubes have TWO caps or plugs. You need to get your hands on a Service Manual. The top plug which is exposed is to replace the fluid, when removed the springs are still under compression. The second lower cap is what holds the springs, I think that would screw into your tubes. This is all a guess as I am not sure if you have after market parts of OEM. Give a manual a look, it i very different then a 39mm front fork. Good luck.
Thanks for the comments....the vendor can’t supply them as they are out of stock, can’ use the two part set up as my trees have pinch bolts so the tube needs to slide up even with the top of the tree...
I guess I will have to find a machine shop and see if they can make a custom set...who knew fork caps would be so hard to find....
