Should I powder coat my FXDLS wheels black or keep them gold? Does the fact that they were only made for the '16-'17 FXDLS impact your decision?
My bike is currently at the dealerships, I'm in the process of swapping out my front stock brake rotors with Arlen Ness 15" Rotors. While it's in the shop I was thinking about having the front and rear wheels powder coated black. One of the the service techs has already powder coated my rear pulley and his work is spot on. Plus I've seen another FXDLS that he's pc'd the wheels black and they look great.
I'm on the fence with how I feel about the stock 'gold' wheel color, I don't hate it nor do I love it.
The only thing that keeps me from pulling the trigger is that the gold wheels were only made for the '16-'17 FXDLS.
I hated the gold wheels on my '16 DLS. They may have called them Gold but they are really a camo brown and detract from the appearance of the bike. I had mine powder coated black and really liked the difference
I also added an orange stripe to the black wheels, as well as custom tank logo etc
I would buy a set of wheels before I PCd mine a different color. Years ahead I know myself personally have grown to regret changing color on wheels with others Ive owned because I didnt like em at the time. Especially with the fact it was only a 2 yr run..... Years from now those wheels will be more valuable stock color then PCd black.... Just my 2 cents, your bike.
Yea remember when those 100 year anniversery tank badges were gonna be such a big collectors item?? That will not happen in anyone's lifetime that's on this site, even if it ever happens. I'm more interested in what my bike looks like when I'm riding it than what couple pennys someone may get for having "stock" wheels 50 years from now. I also gotta say that 117 kit in this bike is a freakin rocket.
