5 3/4 Bullet Head lamp options.
Are there any other options for the head lamp?
I'm new to Harley so any and all info is appreciated.
Thanks,

One of the best products out there is Headwinds, but it is more expensive than HD. When I spoke with them, they claim that the inexpensive lights have had a few common problems (this could just be marketing BS):
a. The housings are cast and sometimes break at the mounting point from vibration
b. The bulbs are not isolated with O-rings etc - and again, vibration can affect them.
c. Many low-cost offshore lights have poor chrome (you can see cast lines etc).
The HD light also comes with a connector already installed - it is a simple plug&play installation (takes about 15 minutes).
One of the models I was looking at was the Cobra II Headlight from Accessories Unlimited (see http://www.accessoriesunlimitedsouth.com/brochure.htm). Looks decent, but I was concerned about the difference between a $99 produt and a $329 product, and decided to just get the HD which was simpler & usually high quality. The headwinds product is higher cost, and the tradewinds product (the lower quality off-shore version of Headwinds) isn't much less than HD.
I am having similar thoughts about the quality of the lamp. The one at eastern preformancelooks nice, but not as nice as the HD. Of course its less than 33% the price so ya get what you pay for of course. It is a high profile item and it has to be top notch. I think I will have to bite the bullet, "pun intended" and get the harley variety.
Couple more questions please?
Is the install on the Head lamp from HD a snap litterally. I assume it has a molex connector of sorts that snaps in. Are there any quirks to the removal of the stock lamp or the install of the new lamp that I should be aware of?
What is the purpose of the "tall mount kit" that is listedfor the install. I assume it isNot part of the Headlamp, as it has a list price of 41.95 and a separate item number of 69611-06
I would rather do the job and save the labor cost if it's an easy install.
Thanks again.

The installation was very simple. There is a connector in the backbone of the bike - the wire from teh headlight runs through a rubber grommet on the side of the frame neck.
You have to remove a plastic cover UNDER the frame backbone to access these connectors. That requires that you lift the tank, which is not hard. I had already installed a tanklift, so I didn't have to move the tank at all.
Anyway, once you remove the "snap on" plastic cover (I can help you see how to do it - there are small locking tabs on the side of the backbone -if you don't see them, you'll break the plastic cover) - you locate the wire, unplug it, and remove the old headlamp.
You do need the TALL mounting kit - it positions the light properly. Just bolt that onto the lower triple tree - then bold on the headlight. Then plug the new wire (which has the connector) into the backbone and you are done.
My only problem was that the headlight seemed to have been wired incorrectly - it had the high beam and low beam reversed. Rather than open up the headlight to rewire (which is difficult to open), I just swapped the two wires in the connector (which just pull out). Everything works perfectly.
I can take some picture and point out the issues if you decide to do it.
I know the HID (high intensity discharge) kits are available for the Road King / Tourers. There are no options for HID on Dyna from Harley, how 'bout 3rd parties?
