Default Auxiliary Lights for a Street Glide?

Greetings;

I have an '09 Street Glide on the way, and am thinking about adding the auxiliary light kit to the bike (part numbers 69818-06, 68208-98A, and 69230-04). I'm sure there are several of you that have installed these kits in the past. If you have time, I'd like to ask:

-Is the kit worth getting
-Are the lights actually switched (on/off manually)
-Are there any tricks to the install

I'd really appreciate any information you can share.

Bryon

Yes you will love being able to see more at night.

Yep they come with a switch that goes in the switch panel.

Lube the wires when you pull them threw the bracket. Other then that easy as pie just takes some time.

-Is the kit worth getting
I decided against it for several reasons, mostly cost and the extra weight on the steering mass.

-Are the lights actually switched (on/off manually)
It uses the switch provided with the kit, which allows you to have them switch on or not when low-beams are used. They will not work on high-beam unless you do custom wiring. I thought about re-wiring to use with high-beams during the day, as well as some extra oomph at night using the right lamps, but didn't feel it would call much more attention to myself in traffic during daylight considering I already have a headlight modulator installed.

For better lighting I simply bought a Carello H4 E-code (European) headlight for about $35, which works much better than the stock HD non-fluted, DOT item. Cibie is another excellent E-code light but costs about 2X as much as Carello and are only marginally if any better. E-code gives a much better pattern both on high- and low-beams, and although are theoretically illegal in the U.S. for street use it is doubtful any LEO will know the difference or bother you, and they don't blind on-coming traffic if aimed properly. High-beams now give probably 1˝-2X the illumination down the road compared to the stock HD units, which frankly are quite mediocre. If nighttime illumination is your only concern this is a much easier and cheaper solution. This is a little-known secret to get better lighting at a very low price. In fact, I will probably sell the HD lamp on Ebay and realize a net gain.

If I did install the passing lamps I would buy some Custom Chrome 37.5W halogen sealed-beam lamps (#15085, 2008 catalog p. 5.17) and wire them with a standard automotive relay. Since I have a 100W high-beam headlight already the extra current (~6A) might tax the 15A fuse, but the relay would negate that risk.

-Are there any tricks to the install
Haven't done it, but it should be straightforward. Re-wiring would be a bit time consuming but isn't rocket science. Here's a diagram:

I put them on my '07, and the trickiest part was putting on the terminal ends. I didn't have the special crimping tool that's required, and neither did any of the auto parts stores I checked (and my dealer was closed), so I did the best I could with some tiny needle nose pliers (to roll the crimp), finished the crimp with a small crimping tool my bud had, and soldered the connection to make sure they wouldn't fall off. It all worked, but that part was a PITA.

Default New product

I have just completed a brand new product with Signal Dynamics and Adjure inc. This is a set of 4 1/2" buckets (same size as stock) and HEADLIGHT lamp (lens) that will be offered in custom colors such as gloss black, denim black, red, and silver or what ever you want (custom colors) and chrome naturally. Stock buckets will not work with these new headlight lenses (too long).
The idea is:

Daytime use:
You turn on the modulating side headlights by turning on your high beam. It is assumed that you have already upgraded your headlight to HID (not mandatory but recommended). Turn off your center headlight.

The features are a pair of modulating bulbs for daytime use. A photo cell automatically turns this function off at night but you can turn on these pair of bulbs (non-modulation) for additional light. Hit your horn and when you pass and the light flashes 3 times notifying the driver being passed of your intentions. In traffic you hit the Hi/Lo switch 3 times and the modulator is turned off to just lights.

Night time.
A pair of HID 35 watt bulbs are turned on by a waterproof push on/push off switch that are piggybacked in the side headlights. Turn on your headlight. There is no modulating lights at night.

Modulating lights are 100% street legal. I have tested them in my garage and they work great in chrome buckets. Test buckets (power coated and anodized) are on the way to be finished by me. when I get a chance I will take the bike to a golf course with yardage markers & take photos.
