The primary chain locker is a delrin "step" looking device that works great. Breaker bar and using the extension on your floor jack made it easy to get the compensator off. The torque value to re-install on my 97 was 150-165 foot/lbs, and I did have to buy a new torque wrench for that.
My workshop manual clearly states "Do not use" step looking device you mentioned? I'll used a lump of wood about 8" long by 1"X1/2 to unlock and lock compensator and clutch nuts. I saw a guy use the wood on you tube, thats how I got the idea. Worked fine for him?

My Service Manual for 97 & 98 Dyna clearly states to use the primary stepped locking tool. See page 6-6 and the attached pic.

CONVERT To a 530 O-Ring Anodized chain and a 23./24 Tooth Front transmission Sprocket By BAKER DRIVETRAIN and a Rear 51 or 52 Rear Tooth Sprocket & get rid of that belt and all those hassles forever .

Chains are a LOT of maintenance.
People that grew up with belts have no idea how good they have it!

Chains are more trouble than there worth. I'll take a belt anytime.

I rode an Iron head coast to coast and more.
The chain is a daily and ritual.
