I just got an "07 wide glide. I bought a windshield and nothing else. Would love to hear what others...suggest for added accessories. Would love to hear lots of opinions...what have you bought and...what do you suggest to stay away from.....
I guess it would help to know what your into. like are you a fan of lot of chrome or more the blacked out type of person. are you into bulky or sleek. comfort or looks etc. etc.
I personally like a bit of both worlds that's why I went with the denim black street bob. I like the blacked out engine but also like chrome here and there. I like a smooth clean look but don't want to give up comfort at the same time. I added simple stuff to clean up the bike and compliment the lines of the bike. I went with the skull collection kit for dyna models, smoked turn signal lenses, kuryakyn side mount and led low profile taillight, screaming eagle seat, HD forwards, HD alarm and siren, V-TWIN grips and pegs etc. I don't want to overchrome my bike or entirely blacken it out so I feel I have a 50/50 thing going on.
I'd put some leather saddle bags on. Stock mufflers suck! A performance slip-on will make it sound like a Harley and still get passed the EPA crap unless you live in The Peoples Republic Of California. Move the front turn signals down to the lower tree too. Kuryakyn Iso-grips are great but if you have small hands it can make the front brake lever a stretch.
Get the catalog and search it carefully. You cannot accessorize a bike wrong. It's all personal preference. I would, however, suggest many many gold eagles with "live to ride and ride to live" scripts all over the place. You should also add lot's of fringe.
Engine guards. Because sooner or later it will slip out of your hands -- better a soft roll onto the guard than a smack down on the tank.
If you get the engine guard, then I'd also suggest the fog lights that mount to the guard. I have no idea how they work in fog, but as a supplemental running light, they sure do draw the eye.
Oddly, the cheap add that has made me the happiest is the "fender tip" that bolts/sticks to the rear of the front fender. Looks really nice.
I like to "upgrade" the seat first thing, my last two bikes did not leave the shop with the stock seat, something soft is what I look for. I always think about bags and would love to get some soon. Don't get me wrong pipes and such would be great but for now I thing the Lowrider runs great and I can't yet afford the extras that come with pipes. But it's whatever you dig man, looks, sounds, performance, comfort, etc..
So far:
Wide Glide Riders Essentials (removable sissy bar with luggage rack and removable windshield)
Kuryakyn 3" forward control extension
Kuryakyn ISO Stirrups (god these are comfortable)
Kuryakyn ISO Passanger pegs
Kuryakyn ISO Grips
(notice a pattern here?)
Will have my Python Staggered Duals soon
Will soon add:
ECU
K&N air cleaner
new seat (not many options for an 07 FXDWG out there yet)
After that:
Will be looking at bags of some sort
Will be thinking about tubeless rims and wheels
Custom paint
Quite possibly soon after that:
A new wife since the old one will probably divorce me when she finds out how much money I'm spending on my bike! [sm=joke.gif]
