Heres my blown out stock style mount with only 1100 miles on it. Theres got to be a better mounting system than this. Im really hoping I can make the CCE mount work.
It serms to be machined from a couple big hunks of aluminum, although it is heaver than stock. I dont known how well it would limit side to side movement as it doesn't have anything to brace itself against the frame like some mounts. But anything has to be better than the crappy stock mount.
I am wondering if this mount was made specifically for the 2006 and up dyna with a it should fit 2005- hence the reason it doesnt fit with ease....
Anyone know for sure the mounts are different between those years?
Good thought. I don't know, but it wouldn't surprise me.
Edit: just checked the microfiche and the same rear mount was used on most (if not all) Dynas from 99-17. It was introduced in 99 (with the 1st twin cam), so the Evo must use a different one.
Good thinking Crusader1xxx, but I have seen other rear mounts that say fits all years, but who knows. Seems to work except for sitting the engine forward a bit, but theres plenty of meat on the CCE mount and I think I'll be able to shave off enough to make it work. Also, when I get my new stock mount I'll try to get some measurements from both and compare. Im gonna make this thing work !
If you count mount it with the engine /trans sitting an inch further ahead, I wonder if the bike wouldn't handle better. Front to rear weight is bad for handling
Heres an update, got my new stock mount in. Found a made in USA one at Boardtracker HD instead of an import like last time. CGGORMAN, I weighed the CCE mount, it came in at 3 lbs 3oz and the stock mount was 1 lb 12 oz. It also hangs down about 3/4" below the frame due to it being longer as seen in the picture, slightly reducing ground clearance. Also according to my crude measurements, compared to the stock mount the CCE mount makes the engine sit about a 1/4" lower and a 1/4" more foward in the frame. Could be that this is proper for a Twin Cam engine?
On another note , I originally was going to modify my Predator mount to get the CCE mount to fit by shaving some off the front of the main support block of the Predator where it bolts to the frame, so I emailed Predator to inquire about buying just that support block to mod and they never responded to my email. Well today, one week to the day of my email I get a box in the mail from England with a new support block in it., no questions asked. Thats pretty awesome, THANKS PREDATOR!!!
