Alignment, when you move the engine left or right with the CCE front mount even as little as 1/8'' it changes your top mount. the rear wheel will tilt, or wont be 0 degrees. So remove top mount first then align rear wheel to front with the bike level, adjust top mount to get rear wheel at 0 degrees. Recheck rear to front. Road test in all gears, mine got even better after i put a 1000 miles on new mounts.
If Im not mistaken the Predator front motor mount pushes the engine forward a bit. Which is why you had a issue with the CCE rear motor mount.
The Predator doesn't move the motor at all...I jacked the motor up a little bit, unbolted the OEM mount, Bolted the Predator in, set the motor back down and finished bolting it down.
Check the alignment and go for a ride, The whole install took about 30 minutes.
When you install the Predator it sort of assumes the engine is in the right place and adjusts itself to that position. When I did mine, I replaced the rear first. My front mount was completely collapsed and the engine was about 1/4" back from where it belonged.* Had I done the front first, I would have locked the Predator down in the wrong position and then the rear mount wouldn't have lined up correctly.
Don't know if I would have been smart enough to go back and correct it...
*This is why shimming the front mount is so tempting, and why it is just lipstick on a bulldog.
Heres my blown out stock style mount with only 1100 miles on it. Theres got to be a better mounting system than this. Im really hoping I can make the CCE mount work.
So you guys that have the CCE mount, How does the moung control lateral movement?
It doesnt really, not in the true sense that a stablalzer would, I think its just like stock but on steroids, much stronger material...at least thats what it looks like.
Found this thread interesting and there is no question installing the Predator Front Motor Mount was a Vast Improvement and Money well spent .. But at this time my 05 FXD is taking curves with the same speed and comfort my FXR4 did, so not sure I want to fix anything that's not broke ..
Their website says aluminum, probably type 3 hard coated Pics to me show bushing carrier aluminum also. That big of a piece of steel would weigh much more that 3 pounds
Was doing something like this before CCE came out with theirs. Mine controlled side play with plastic shims. Side plates were steel. I was using polyurethane for the islator but it wasn't holding together. Might revive it but go to a different bushing design.
