ABS issues post wheel change. Can i ditch the Electronic Control
however, theres a sting in the tail. For whatever reason, such as the wheel bearings being the incorrect bearings, or the new sized front wheel being a larger diameter than the stock, the ABS didnt function after they were fitted. When i applied the front brake, the brake didnt respond for some yards, then it cut in and worked
the dealer disengaged it from the ABS ECM (to get me back on the road), and as they advised i had an amber warning light, and the brakes worked again, but without ABS. in fact the rear worked much better, by virtue of it worked, something it was weak before the issue arose. I rode the bike a few hundred miles, no issues, other than the light being on.
so now its back in with the dealer, and in fairness to them, they are trying their best to fix the issue.
but its made me think. can i take my 2015 wide glide back to a basic bike, with minimal electronic reliance. no ABS, no EFi, back to a carb. Is it a big job, or expensive. okay, it wil be expensive, its a harley, but is it possible. I really don't give a to55 about the ABS, but i'd rather not have the light illuminated
Not sure why you would want to do this....
I am not anti-ABS per se. Perhaps anti Harley ABS. The strange thing was, that after the ABS problems started, the back brake worked effectively, something it never did before, and i had just got used to the old feel.
We swapped the ABS bearing, and the fault, is still there. See above, on the want to spend
Would appear so. Would it be fair to say, that the more modern the bike, electronics wise, the more difficult it is to custom.
I have a near garage wall of stock parts i have taken off and replaced, maybe as a project, its a nice thought, wide glide's are not common over this side. i would have to be lucky
