Chirping sounds coming from Carburetor
I've got a 1999 Dyna Lowrider with a carbureted Twin Cam 88 with about 24,500 miles. Recently I've been noticing a noise coming from the engine area that sounds like chirping or kind of like crickets. It doesn't do it 100% of the time but something like 70 to 80%. Depends on the throttle position so I suspect the noise is coming from the carburetor but it's difficult to pinpoint since it doesn't do it unless the engine is pulling. I'm wondering if there might be a vacuum leak or maybe a tear in the diaphragm. The engine runs fine for the most part but it has stalled a couple times when trying to accelerate from a dead stop after sitting at idle at a red light. Don't know if that's related to the noise or not. Do I need to rebuild the carb?

So, I looked through the threads you (mmesa005) sent and a majority referenced the drive belt although one or two mentioned the carb. I really don't think it is a drive belt issue as the noise seems to be coming from the front of the bike and on the right side from the carburetor area. I'm just not sure what to do about it.

Process of elimination. If you not certain of the cause eliminate the possibilities.

So I found the culprit. Turns out it was the battery cover lid. I replaced the battery a few weeks ago and now that I think about it, that's when the noise started. Not sure why it's loose fitting now when it never was before but a little padding material between the lid and the frame did the job.
