Im looking at a 2006 Street Bob for a run around bike. Is there anything I should know about this year and model.
the bike looks fine as for motor and trans, nothing leaking or such. It does need some cosmetic work, for me anyway.
has 16 apes, not crazy about them, seat is some kind or touring seat, Sundowner I think, looks out of place. Mid controls only, no forward pegs or mounts. Rear brake/ tail light is some after market skull light, dont like it either. Most of what needs fixing or replacing is minor but added up is, well a mess....Im not sure what previous owner was going for...
also has short shocks on it...but like I stated, mostly cosmetic and I e got all winter to correct that.
Guess what Im asking is there anything engine or trans wise that gives this model year issues...
Worst year dyna to buy. Many parts on that bike were made for one year only as it was the last year of the 88ci so it has spring loaded cam tensioner that can fail if not checked at certain intervals.

2006 DYNAs had the hydraulic cam chain tensioners ... They were the only '06s to have that.
I have the 06. Partwise, the only problem I got with it was when I was converting the wire wheels to mags. Only the 06 has the 1" axles, pretty dumb. 06 dynas was the last one with the 88" motor and first one with 6 gear. I guess its not that easy to find parts for the engine comparing to other year modells. 06 is the black sheep of the dyna family. Kinda special, but kinda dumb at the same time.
I had an 06 Wide Glide, the 06 Dynas had the 88 with a 6 speed. They also had a problem with the inner primary bearings going out because the inner primary bearing didnt have the alignment pins like the later models. Good news that is a known issue on 06 Dynas, when it goes out the Moco covers the cost and replaced it with a cover with dowel pins.
No locating dowels on the transmission case can cause early IPB failure. HD good willed some machines and replaced the trans case/inner primary. I'd at least look into that before I decided.
