Was planning on going that Route myself but got such good deals on Price went with the SE Upgrade .. While have had no problems going this route still wonder sometimes though if should not have spent a little extra coin and done the S&S .. Time Will Tell ..
Just out of curiosity, what is it about the higher lift cams that can't be used in stock 88 motors? The S&S install manual says 04-05 valve springs can accommodate the higher lift springs, up to .585.
Well... it can be used, but not to your advantage. If you read about the head flow you'll see your heads flow levels about .500+ lift.
The S&S specs for the .585: https://www.sscycle.com/tech-info/in...specs-overview 585: Designed for 88 to 95 CID engines with compression ratios from 9.7:1 to 10.5:1 and 100 to 124 CID engines from 9:1 to 10:1 compression. Provides massive horsepower and torque increases starting at 3000rpm and holds steady all the way to redline. 3500-6000 rpm for 88" - 103" engines and 2500-5500 for larger engines.
Was looking at the S&S 585CE cam chest kit as a future upgrade to my bike--anyone ever buy the whole set? Some have suggested to buy the parts individually so I'm just looking for general tips/suggestions/experience here.
How much would I be seeing for labor for an install like this? I don't think I'm mechanically inclined enough yet or have the right tools for the job.
Thanks.
I bought the fueling 0E + hydraulic tensioner upgrade refueling HP lifters SS push rods and covers and 2TW6 wood cams. Kit came with sprockets change I bought fasteners they dont come with it anyway the whole kit came to about 1800 for all the parts and they want to 1500 to put in.
Its not that hard if you could do it yourself if youre half *** mechanic and get it done if you have patience. Made a big difference in my 88 and I hear than cams love big bore kits, so Im all set next winter to put those on 98 big bore kit ss. I just noticed this is from 2019. Oh boy hope everything worked out for you lol.
