Vivid black with forward controls and 180 tire already on the bike. A question, Should I get a feeling for this bike with the mini-apes or go right to drag bars.
And will i be able to handle a 96" coming off of a Sporty 1200cc.
NICE....as far as the bars go...its your call. I didnt think I would like apes, but now I am in love. I rode my buddies night train a few times and I can't get used to the drags. The apes are much more comfortable and I find it easier to control the bike. I think you will be fine with the 96" coming from a 1200. Its more power, but the bike is also a little heavier. You will def notice more punch. If you are questioning it....just take it slow and ease into the power as you ride more and more. Again, NICE bike and enjoy it!!!
Welcome, and congrats from a fellow Bob owner. I also love my apes, they are very comfortable. I purchased my St. Bob a few weeks ago and had never rode anything bigger than a crotch-rocket (that i had borrowed). But i found the Dyna to be very easy to ride, not at all like i thought it would. You made a good decision going with a Dyna.
You'll do fine with the added power and either bars will do. Personally I'd stick with the apes for awhile and see how you like them. Who knows you might want to get a set of 16's...
Problem with the mini apes?? That's one of the reasons I bought a Street Bob, the bars are so comfortable and natural feeling. The extended height gives you more leverage to throw around the extra weight especially compared to drag bars and their lower leverage effect.
1200 Sporty has a better power to weight ratio so the power shouldn't be a problem at all. Bob is slower.
well said,i agree 99% except for bob being slower.mine screams. faster and smoother than my 04 sporty was . i brought my front wheel up the other day when i hit second gear, and i was not even trying. LOL.
Congratulations ! Ride it with the stock apes before changing anything. I rode a wide glide for 3 years before changing for a Street Bob and love apes so much that I changed my Bob's apes for 18".
My wife went from a 2004 Sportster custom to a 2007 Street Bob and she said no realdifference in power.
Decide weather or not if your gonna lower the rear end, Do that first then decide on a Seat. After you have that done that then measurefor the bar height.. 12" 14" 16" 18",orDrag bars, You want your hands level with your shoulders in case of a uneasy situation with apes.. You dont want to do it twice, cables and brake lines are expensive. Measure ,Measure, Measure, I get bikes all the time where people just go buy 16" 18" bars and then find out they have a hard time at slow speeds in parking lots or anywhere else they have to steer instead of lean after they changed the seat and the seat droped them 1 1/2" and then 11" shocks which dropped the another 2" so now therehands are way above there shoulders and falling asleep or going numb after a couple hours.. Try and do it right the first time... I'm 5'11" with 12.5's and my hands are just higher than the bars with the 11" shocks and corbin hollywood solo.. with the stock seat there below the shoulders and I could have used 14 maybe 16"s .. Just my .02 Good Luck
