Greezey, thanks for the link to the bracket. Did you have to get longer cables to put those bars on?
I'm running stock cables wit some creative re routing, As I replace them I will probably go with slightly longer ones.
My bike was originally a Wide Glide, I don't know if the stock cables on those are a little longer than they are on an FXD or FXDX, I know that the bars were a little taller from the factory than some of the other Dyna models.
Sounds like the taller bars will make for a more comfortable ride then...14" is what I was thinking but I haven't done any measuring yet. Really I liked the setup Last Saint had on his scoot. I believe he had 14" West Coast T-bars. I also like the Roland Sands Vintage bars. I don't know anyone locally that has a similar setup so I may just have to do some measuring and order some or maybe try the PVC mock up. If I go with the T-bar setup I'll have to come up with a bracket for my speedometer mounting.
I have some slightly used T-bar in the classifieds if you're interested. Would save you some cash and you could always sell them if they don't work out.
In order to get my tach and speedo standing at the correct angle I made a couple of angled spacers from some steel tubing.....It worked fine considering that I just marked it and used a hack saw to cut the angle.
I have a 2011 FXDC. I went thru handle bars hell from the day I bought it until now.
First, don't worry about cable length right now. Get the bars figured out first.
I tried a +2 inch rise +1 inch back pair of risers on the stock bars. Marginal but better. No cable issue.
I went to a 6 inch rise bar on the 2 inch riser. Marginal on the cables, but ok. Still not satisfying.
Tried a pair of 8 inch Flanders Buckhorns. Still not tall enough and definitely would need cables. Sent em back.
Ended up with the tallest Flanders Buckhorns. Fit me perfect. Then I got 6 inch over stock cables from Magnum. Also worked perfect.
So focus on where your hands fall and what works for you and be prepared to send back a pair or two if you need to. Once you get the hand position right; figure out your cables.
