06 had issues with the stator having bolts back out and fragments tearing up the bearing and seal. They went away from it and to a one piece without bolts in 07. Yes, leak behind the primary can take several hours to fix due to how many parts have to be removed just to replace a gasket. Decide if you can live with it or spend 3 hours with the manual and $60 on gaskets and oil to replace it
