Dyna top speed
Imagine their suprise when I have what my local mech. calls a "high comp. kit" installed. This thing is rated at 95 hp and 111 Tq. The kit dosent require any major head rework, with the exception of a compression release. It still uses a chain driven cam system, it uses a nasty set of forged psitions and I was encouraged to stay with my SE II staggered exhaust system w/ slip ons instead ofthe V&H Big shots thatI was thinking of.
This build makespower through the "usable" range. (2200 - 4950 rpm) where most of us ride.High Hp engines are ok if you are track racing or are using it in some other such capacity.. IMHO but they (High Hp engines) can be very tempermental and can have mechanical issues. An every day street ridden HD (like I use mine for in commuting 60+ miles one way) or going for weekend runs on, is IMHO served best where a Harley also makes most of its "fun" at, by being a torqueMONSTER with good streetable Horsepower.
Just my $.02
Guys, Harleys are made for cruising not top speed, wanna go fast buy an R1 or similar bikes, not a Harley. I cant see the fun of reaching +100mph in HDs, but yes its hell of fun reaching +180 mph in sports bikes or cars!
I think them apes might have something to do with it. You are all spread out creating a lot of windage. Put some drag bars on and tuck in, bet you will go faster.

Yeah u r right about the world record, but doesthat thing look like an HD or even like a motorcycle!!!!? I'm talking about our Harleys man, street ones. [8D]
Interesting stuff, this "rev limiter" thing. Reminds me of the days when the different versions of Chevy Camaro's came out and some went faster than others. Why you say? Tires my friends, tires. Let me explain what this has to do with your bike and it's top speed.
When Harley design's the bike the handling cababilities are stringently tested before, during and after design. The susp., and tire combination as well as all the of the engineered components are factored in when a "final" upper limit is programmed in. This will be on the safe side of the Speed Performance Rating of the tire. This is done for legal reasons more than anything. Think about it. Harley puts an H Rated tire on your bike, yet rolls it off the assembly line made to go in excess of 210 KPH (130 MPH) ?? That ain't going to happen. Adding an "update" to the ECM to circumvent the original factory calibration technically voids your warranty thus keeping Harley and other manufacturers from being liable.
I beleive the Dyna's, 06 and 07 fuel cut at 5500 RPM. I hit that lots of times in second or third street light racing. It just cuts out for a sec. and I make my shift. In the Harley Only Top Fuel Drags they have to keep the fuel cut programmed. Lot's of races are lost due to hitting the cut. OUCH! lol
Where was I going with this...hmm, got sidetracked! OH ya! Just because you added the kit to raise fuel cut to a higher RPM doesn't necessarily mean you can get there at top speed. A lot of things come into play at higher speed. The weight of your fat ***, wind speed, W/S vs no W/S, added accesories, road surface and on and on and on. Your pipes and air cleaners etc. will improve your stoplight racing times but like I said, top end is a whole differentbaby. Don't forget to check and make sure your tires are rated for as fast as your bike can go if you do make performance improvements. Here are some nummbers that should be achievable (except top speed) on 06 Dyna with a 160/70B17 73V Rear Tire.
Oh ya, notice the rear tire is a "V" (149MPH/240KPH) but the bike is nowhere near that fast? The front is an "H" Speed rated tire. (130 MPH/210 KPH) Now look at our theoretical max speed on the chart. It's no coincedence.

(It's in MPH)

Raising your rev limiter does not void your warranty. Read the Magnusson-Moss Warranty Act of 1975. Actually the Stage I download raises it to 6300rpm. Grenading your motor because you raised it beyond safe limits, that's a different story.
