Guys, Harleys are made for cruising not top speed, wanna go fast buy an R1 or similar bikes, not a Harley. I cant see the fun of reaching +100mph in HDs, but yes its hell of fun reaching +180 mph in sports bikes or cars!
That is one of the dumbest things I ever heard! If I wanted a friggin' sport bike, I would've bought one. Hell no, I wanted a Harley. I didn't want to break the sound barrier, I wanted a Harley. I didn't want to do 150mph wheelies, I wanted a Harley. I didn't want to sit on my ***** with my legs folded up, I wanted a Harley. I didn't want to listen to a 13,000rpm buzzsaw, I wanted a Harley. How about this, you do what you want on your bike and I'll do what I want on mine. If I want to occasionally venture north of 100mph, that's my business.
Just saw this thread while doing a search for info on why this happens.
Both my wifes 05 Duece with stg1, double barrell exh and my 05 Wide glide w/ stg 1 and SE Pro Pipe. Both top out at around 110 MPH.
Today I cracked the whip on theWide Glide to blow it out on a safe stretch of road and wound 4thto around 105 and shifted to 5th and she was pulling hard and had plenty left and then just stops pulling around 110... same experience on the wifes.
I think the Stg1 has a Speed cut in it.
Two different bikes andboth do the same ...must be.
[:'(]would not want to have to be the guy to pick up the body parts..yuk!!!!............ oh, theres his finger.......... oh there his elbow stuck up his .SS.... yea cool...... faster bevis, faster butthead.... coooool...........bet they can do 100+ with no helmet,........... " Not That there Is anything Wrong With That"!!!!!!!!
I just like to cruise on my '07 Dyna at 45 to 55mph. This bike just isn't made for anything over 100mph. Also, since I added the 14 inch Gimp Hangers, anything over 75mph gets real uncomfortable. If I want to go faster than 75mph, I'll just take my '04 Busa or my '03 SVT Lightning out for a spin. Both of these vehicles were madeto go fast.
I think them apes might have something to do with it. You are all spread out creating a lot of windage. Put some drag bars on and tuck in, bet you will go faster.
raced my friend yesterday i was on 7 streetbob (mini windshield, mini apes, d&d fatcat, k&n kit, tmax, i'm around 185lbs.), he was on 07 streetglide (screaming eagle slipons, no windshield, stock aircleaner, stock ecm, dragbarshe's around 150 lbs). i would take him by a bike and a half in any gear roll ons at the crack of the throttle and we would stay right there up to 100mph. basically i had a little more lowend and on top very even, although the first gear rollons i was probally getting him by 2 bikes.
Do you have a picture of this07 Street Glidewithno windsheild and drag bars?
I'm no Dyna but have hit 210km/h and have 16 inch bars, not very comfortable at that speed wasnt there for long but had an 02 dyna wide glide right next me...she still had a tiny bit left if i had drag bars might have been a different story.
