Default Tachometer Wiring Question

folks,

please see below. Where would be the best place to tie into the harness. I would like for this to look like professional did the install. All connections are going to be soldered and heat shrink or the inline tap type. Wiring loom as well.

Default Tachometer

The days of getting the signal from the coil are over. It a ECM bike and that's where you get the signal although I can't tell you which wire to hook it too. If you do a search on the subject, from this forum (dyna glide models) you will find some info on how to hook it up.

What year bike? Most late models you would just add the wiring and pins to the plug in the main harness that run the tach. Some also already have the wires running to the speedometer and you would just splice in to them under the dash.

sorry, 2011 super glide custom.

I have the console completely off the bike and all guages removed. Thats the reason im asking now.

I do have the Dyna repair book from Harley. Im about to look it over. I was just wondering if someone is as **** as I and where is the best place to tie in. That would be great if the "tach terminals" are in a plug and not used.

While you have gotten a lot of noise here.. You will have issues.

You can still use a tach that senses off the coils but the problem is that tach looks to be using the primary for a coil that fires both cylinders. The Dyna coil is 2 coils in one housing and each coil fires individually. If you connect to one of the primary wires, you will read an RPM that is 1/2 the actual RPM as the tach will only see one cylinder fire. You need to find a single cylinder primary tach. Or the proper one which uses serial data (J1850 bus) above.

I get you. I did research but there was alot of confusion. Is my fxdc 2011 single fire or dual fire? i believe its single fire. If the tach is set up to read the pulses correctly i should be ok? Many folks have used this tach w/success.

If that is the case there should 2 siginal wires off the coil plug shouldnt there. the OE diagram shows 12v ign and ground. I have found the black and orange. QUESTION.. what is serial data? signal?
