Default FXDB tach

I'm new to the HD world and i bought a 2012 street bob and really don't like that it doesn't have a tachometer. I've searched and I'm still not sure how to go about it. Are the HD 4" ones on there site really plug and play? I don't want to spend $314 without some insight first. Thanks

Take a look at the installation instructions for the Harley Combo Speedometer/Tachometer. Remove the old, install the new and note the steps to follow in the installation instructions.

Aftermarket such as Dakota Digital has a similar installation

Have you checked your trip function to activate the tach? Did the 2012 not have that capability?

the OEM Harley should work. the 12 is the first year to use the new communication methods. I hate it absolutely hate it. Too effn expensive and you have to look down the see rpms... ummmnNO.

But, Get in the console and see if the plug is there. All the harley stuff is for the most part propirety. If the plug is there your in luck if you want to drop 300 in coin.

I had ABSOLUTELY NO oem hook up (harness) in my 2011 FXDC. I must have a tach. I went with the "bikers choice" i believe. it is electrical. I paid around 50$ and wired it like any other tack. no workie.. or half workey really. I needed an adapter $35 wired it in and it works like a champ. It converts a dual fire bike into a single fire bike

Hopeing to ger a 3-3/4 or 5" auto meter soon. Look me up.. i went through suggestion after suggestion. If i wouldnt have had my manual w, schematics i would be poking and proding wires to this day. Also, a few guys in that thread are qyite knoweledgable.

single fire fires both banks at the same time irrelevant of stroke cycle

dual fire fires each bank independently on compression stroke

I figured that out right after I started this thread, guess I was having a dumb moment. It shows rpm and gear which is great but a bigger display of the rpms would be nice so eventually I will upgrade it.
