Headlight and taillight blowing fuse

Headlight and taillight blowing fuse
2010 FXDC and it’s blowing the fuse for the headlight and taillight. Brake light and blinkers work. Where should I begin to start troubleshooting?

Has any work been done recently? If so, look at the components involved.
Start with the obvious. Look under the rear fender to see if any wires have been damaged from hitting the wheel. When does the fuse blow? If it happens when you hit the light switch or the brakes check the switches and wiring at the controls.

The usual suspect in this case would be the wiring that goes back to the tail light, check the condition of the wires under the rear fender.
Disconnect the electrical connector for that part of the elect harness and see if it still blows the fuse.

Disconnect and isolate the disconnected connections in both lights. Turn them on and if the fuse doesn't rupture this will indicate the problem lies within one of the lamps. If it still blows it's the wiring.
