I had the dealer tune my bike with a SERT and I think it needs to be dialed in a little bit better, if I had a set of SERT cables, could I plug my SERT in and pull the map that my bike is currently running and just modify that? Or do I just have to start from scratch? I could just take it back to the dealer and tell them I think they didn't tune it properly, but I would like do the tuning myself and I would like to be able to put it back to where it is now if I really screw it up.
Another option might be to sell the SERT and the ECM on eBay (the SERT marries to the ECM right?) and buy one of those self tuning deals.
Just so you know, my set up is as follows:
2006 FXDC
SERT
SE Air Cleaner
V&H big shot staggered.
Just have it dyno tuned by a shop that knows what they're doing. You should have the cables but unfortunately, you can't pull the map from the ECM. Ask your dealer to provide it to you, if it is a custom map. If it is a canned map that came with the software, you should have all that stuff. If you have nothing from the SERT, you've been ripped off. Everything in the package belongs to you.
Dealer should have given you a copy of the map file that they used. I would get the cable while you are at the dealer. Real easy to use, as long as you remember to tunr on the run switch also. Do not ask me how I know that....[sm=headbang.gif]
Century in Medina dialed mine in without a dyno. Mickey's in Newton Falls is good also. If Liberty did it, take it back and tell them it's not right yet, they'll get it. It took them 2 trys with my father in law's but it's running great now.
There's alot more to tuning with a SERT then just throwing it on the dyno and correcting the VE tables. What the tuner is doing with the closed loop areas, the target A/F ratio across the map range including WOT, aceleration enrichment, timing, and o2 bias adjustment all add up to a great tune.
There is noeasy way to tune with just the sert and a laptop or by seat of the pants. To do dead on air/fuel adjustments,You'll need a daytona sensors twin scan 88+ which logs target vs actualA/F ratio's (with wide band sensor) and gives you the exact VEcorrections that needs to be made to the SERT map. You have the ability to tune the entire throttle and load range at every RPM. Most shops do little more thenlean out the WOT to 13.3:1 and show youbetter peak numbers but do nothing to fix the lean surge at parking lot speeds, eliminate deceleration popping,or eliminate closed mode operation at various points of the map wherean air cooled enginehas no business running at 14.6:1. There's alot more work to do on these maps then that. Pretty easy stuff once it all sinks in.
If I had to do it over again, I'd just buy one of the new WEGO controllers and be done with it.
