This first happened yesterday on a ride. Shift lever seems to get stuck in-between gears.
So coming to a stop, I went to downshift from 3rd to 2nd to 1st and the lever got stuck in 2nd gear. It suddenly wouldn't downshift (or upshift for that matter) to first, and neutral was gone. I had to limp to a start in 2nd from the stop, and then I was eventually able to downshift to 1st. This happened several times. Ie, if in 4th, shift lever will stick in 3rd, and will not unbind until clutch is let out completely, or sometimes not at all. Finding neutral is also difficult, as the lever seems to float right over it. 5k miles on the bike.
Anyone else have this problem? Could it maybe be the linkage?
It could be that your clutch needs to be adjusted but I'd say that you dont need to worry. Try to shift down through the gears before you come to a complete stop. Just a suggestion.

Um...yes I know how to ride a motorcycle. I am not habitually stopping at red lights in 6th gear. My gear lever is sticking, which prevents me from getting into first gear at a stop. Any other suggestions?
I would start by adjusting the clutch (behind the derby cover) and the cable. Make sure it's all completely room temperature first. Before chasing other possibilities, you should be confident that it's adjusted correctly.
These transmissions are not designed to be able to shift through the gears at a complete stop. Mine shifts very smoothly up and down when moving. But, the occasional time thst I forget to down ship all the way Tva stop, I can’t always get it to 1st without just slight movement.
Oh yeah, make sure the clutch is properly adjusted, the primary is not overfilled, and don’t mash the shift lever.
