Some nice FLD's here. Really like some of the color contrasting. OP, you got yourself a damned good bike.
My wife and I both got them in Oct 2013 as a 10 year anniversary present to ourselves. Once I found the right seat/handlebar combination, it just works really well for a road bike/touring bike. I've rented an Ultra over the summer when visiting family in MT. Very cool bike, but gargantuan and heavy. I vastly prefer the nimbleness and lighter weight of the FLD as a solo tourer. The bags, even though about 2/3rd's the size of the touring bags, work well for me. Can't say I've ever found myself wanting the larger, yet, more oddly internally shaped bags of the touring line. The bag is wide enough to hold a 6pk that I pick up on the way home after a nice ride. I can stuff my leather jacket in there, along with tools, water, gloves, etc. Also, I don't have to remove the bag to access the shock, unlike the touring bags. I do wish the fork legs had commonality with the other Dynas though, and dual front brake discs. But still, a damned good bike. We've had our bikes 6 years this month, and nothing else that HD currently has in the line up is grabs me enough to dump my Switchback, although the Road King temps me.
I put in an Andrews 57H cam, with V&H FP3, V&H ProPipe w/ quiet baffle, upgraded the fork with Racetech emulators and springs, and running Hagon 13" Nitro shocks. Just spooned on new Pirelli Night Dragons, new wheel bearings and battery this season. Feels like a new bike. The wife's bike has Racetech springs and Bitubo 13" shocks w/ preload and damping adjustment. By the way, the suspension was the single best upgrade of both bikes.
And to contribute to the Switchback pics., mine is the blue one, and wife's in red is in the backround…….
I think my clutch cable and gascables are to short perhaps even have to replace the brake line. What do you think are they to short? Is there a possiblity to re arange the clutch cable to create more room?
I would black out the chrome ring. It would look better with the rest of the black out. And I was told by a custom guy that if my bars were 12" or less, I wouldn't have to change the length of any cables.
Looking good. Yes, keep the headlight bezel chrome. Adds a nice contrast. Purely subjective, but the design mistake I see a lot of people make going for the blacked out look is too much black. Small chromed pieces for contrast look great.
So the end result, now waiting for some good weather to drive again!
Still not sure about the cables, gonna drive for some time and than decide what to do.
Any thoughts about the gloss black finnish?
Dude! It looks awesome! As far as I'm concerned, paint is supposed to have a gloss. When I grew up, if your vehicle had a flat finish, it was because it was only primer. You couldn't afford paint. Looks great, and leave the bezel chrome. Good job!
