I think the chrome helps showcase the motor. The silver contrast looks good on your bike. On the other hand, chrome's a pain in the a$$ to keep polished.
I got a set of used chrome off ebay. Was going to have them powder coated black till I got them and cleaned them up. They have a few scratches but they are under the tank so I just used them and realy like them.

Chrome for sure....it would accent the other small bits of chrome you already have. Especially since you have chrome on your rims. I think black would be too much in your case. Chrome is not hard to take care of or clean.
