Dumb question. Can you see the oil around the drain plug or is oil dripping off the oil pan , marking it's spot. You mentioned a 2002, have you checked the shift shaft seal? It's the shaft going into the trans mission between the inner primary case and trans.

I’m about ready to weld this mother-f@&$er shut.

On a happier note...it is Friday.

Replace the pan with a new drain plug and o'ring

What a great bunch you folks are. I appreciate all the suggestions.

Engine oil drain plug for sure. Left rear faces out. Near primary drain plug.

This is most likely the fix that will be performed.

Blue Bob I will shoot a few pics tomorrow. Will also shoot the bottom of the pan.

Im painting the primary cover this month so I will inspect the entire inner primary and shift shaft then.

Oddly this bike seems to do this every oil change. Doesn’t matter if it’s me or the local Indy wrench. She drips for 6 weeks or so and stops.
You can imagine the first time or two when she stopped I thought she was dry but nope. Just sealed up finally. She also takes 3qts and 4ozs. I used to add 2 ozs at a time after a change but now I add the full aforementioned amount and ride her for 10-15 min and check the level. Spot on every time.

Random ism from today...she stranded me. Dead battery. That was a surprise. It was a 3 year old Yuasa battery. But no real warning signs. No tired cranking. Nope. All was good till I was away from home...then click, click, click, click. Bought a cheapie Autocraft battery until I order the lithium ion one I have my sights on.

She has issues.

Until tomorrow!!!! I shall return with photos,

There's no reason that o-ring seal should drip. If it does then either the o-ring is bad, it's the wrong o-ring, or the seat is damaged.

Well no pics today. I got 75 miles up the road and she **** the bed. Lights started flickering and speedo swept to 0 several times and then cut off.

She’s graveyard dead. Battery is brand new and now has 10.6 volts. Turn the key and nothing. No lights no click click click. Zip. Pulled off what I could in the field and gave up. I suspect 30amp circuit breaker popped and stator or regulator are shot. But I have to tear it down for some tests.
pissed me off for sure. Comment or theories are welcome.

Thank goodness the wife was home and she came to get me in the pickup with an MC trailer.

Now I need to decide what to do. If the left side is coming apart then what’s the harm for the right side coming apart. Compensator delete? 30 tooth? For sure I’m going to pull the clutch and inspect the plates. Checking runout is a given. Most likely going to replace the oil pan so no more drip.

Thanks for listening,

John

I assume you checked the leads on battery that they were tight.

Not to sound like a dick, but, first thing you should do when you have a dead battery is determine whether the problem is the battery or the charging system...
