yes fully assembled ..ive not got round to doing job yet...yes the plug in bottom of forks that holds shocker internals under axle is where im was going to try filling ....
Do that - and you'll **** it up
And be lucky to re-tighten that retaining bolt back up - likely the internals will spin
...well....don’t ask for advice then ignore it...almost everyone one here has said to take them apart...so why wouldn’t you?
like I said, there is a right way to do things and the wrong way...sometimes you can get away with it on non critical things..suspension is not one of them....
don’t be that “hack” mechanic that screws up a part that costs $$$ to save a dime. Or costs you your or someone else’s life
i found when i came to fill new fork tubes that the old ones were bent so that is why i couldnt press bungs in fork top ...after changing lowers i was able to press new bungs back together ..so used old way of measuring oil as you suggested ..it s always best that way was just fooled by almost non existent curve in old tubes stopping spring from compressing ..
this bend in fork was also reason my spacer tube stuck out four inches after i removed fork top bung... beware when unscrewing a bent fork tube the spring is more compressed and stuck up the stanchion heavily loading the fork top bung much more than is normal ...always a tentative moment but much more so on bent forks
