That's not entirely true. Cannon plugs (MS27499 and the like) are used extensively in older aircraft and they are generally soldered. (That's what I was referring to above.) Current advisories seem to discourage use of solder terminals as they don't (as you stated) present any advantage over crimp connections. (Of course, we don't get our crimpers at Lowes or Harbor Freight.) We still teach soldering in Part 147 schools and it is covered on the practical testing.

You will find Cannon Connectors all over modern jet aircraft and jet engines, but we don`t use them on automotive stuff...

Crimp connectors are not soldered, that is what we are discussing here.

Soldering a crimp connector does not make it a better connection, it makes it a less durable connection.
