I have a 99 fxdx with dual disc and spoke wheels. I am struggling to find info on the parts needed to upgrade the front and rear brakes as i know the early dynas lack clearance on the front. As for the rear i cant find anything at all.
Ive also got a 99 DX, and from my research, there isnt an aftermarket 4 piston caliper that will work with spoke wheels. PM and HHI will work with cast wheels, at least according to them (Ive asked), but not spokes.
Probably the best you can do is floating rotors and good pads.
Not sure about a DX with the original sliders but I put a 08 Fat Bob (DF) front end on my '99. Wide rim spoke wheel, tho. Easy bolt-on. Just lose use of the neck lock. 08 DF master.
The rear I am using a Wilwood GP310 caliper and their low mount bracket. Also an easy bolt on. Stock 99 master.
Lyndall pads and rotors all around. All together, it's an immeasurable improvement in stopping performance. Tires help a bunch, too, tho. 180 rear / 150 front, both Avon Cobra.
The Wilwood Front Caliper might work just fine on that NG. See the Wilwood Dwg below. It shows it being only .95" from inside of rotor to Inside/Back of Caliper body.
I have a NG fork/wheel set-up just like yours ... I grabbed a ~.983" wheel spacer to use as a gauge and was able to slide it down the inside of the rotor past the brake pad "Swept" area before interference with a spoke. So in theory it should work ...YMMV
Summit Racing usually has some of the best prices on those cals (looks like a Coupon on top of their page) ... You use the 84-99 # 120-7737 (Left) & 120-7736 (Right) with some (or no) suffix)
i also have a 1999 fxdx with a bad bracket on the rear caliper. I was thinking whether if i could just swap in a 00 and up swingarm and use the two piston caliper...

Youre right Max, the mounts are different. But I think he was asking if he could swap to the 00+ swingarm and caliper, if he does the swingarm also he would be fine.
