I’m trying to find the best ride possible for my 2009 low rider. I want a ride more like the touring bikes without having to get a new bike. Any suggestions

Ohlins. Call Howard at Motorcycle Metal and he will set you up with a pair of shocks custom made to your riding preferences.

Best ride possible? That sounds expensive. First of all, what’s your budget?

They’re expensive. I personally don’t have any experience with them, so can’t help you with that. But! They sure like to sponsor people on social media and therefore get big endorsement by these guys stunting. By any means, they could be the best out there. I was near buying a pair of their revo a, but realize only stunters were using them. I picked the RWD just because I felt they’re more a riding shocks. I’m very happy with my choice.

You should for sure upgrade your fork springs as well if you were thinking on putting the money on legends.

Suspension is one of those subjects that a lot of people have a lot of opinions on. And they all usually think they’re right 😂

Anyways, my setup, rwd 14" in rear and ps performance catridge in front. Tried ps 490 series before rwd and was also happy with them. More budget friendly but still performance oriented.

If you want a riding style of a touring, get touring suspensions? I really don’t know what that means. I don’t think they’re comfy at all, or good🤷‍♂️

Your riding style? Are you thinking on the forks? Your height and do you want to keep the stock height or raising it?

I’m 5’3”. I have 11” progressive shocks on my bike now. They have been there since I got the bike. I don’t ride hard or aggressive. I was thinking of adding a wider tire on front. I can change both front and back. We just lowered the front forks.

Then I don’t see why you’re considering legends. If you have the money, why not 🤷‍♂️

There’s not a lot of travel for a performance setup on 11"s. You need to at least go 12.5” or more, that’s what I think.

But to be honest, we’re not in the same range or riding style, I’m not the best to help. All I can tell is legends are a bit overkill for you.

I have legend revo-a shocks on my bagger and they are decent, not amazing if you are looking for that Cadillac type ride. They are sprung to heavy for me solo so they can be a little harsh, two up they are wonderful. They hold the road well though, and I don’t get that wallowing feeling in hard corners. I went up to 13” with the rear and also used their axeo cartridges.

In regards to Dyna suspension, I’m waiting on my machinist to finish with my lower fork sliders before I ship them out to have Andreani cartridges installed. The back will be legend, fox, or Öhlins in a 13.5-14” length once I’m heady to tackle the back. Your biggest issue will be the lowered suspension; Anytime you shorten the length of travel you end up with a more harsh suspension. So at this point, you need to clarify your expectations, and be honest about what feel you are looking for.
