Default 14" T-bar Install (Charlotte, NC)

First post!

I just received my 14" t-bars and I am trying to decide if I want to try and tackle the install or have a local shop do it. 2016 FXDB Street Bob. I don't know if I want to deal with the frustration the internal wiring.

Local dealer (Charlotte, NC) Quoted me around $700-800. In my opinion, a total rip off to install handlebars.

I do most of my work on my bike (oil changes, etc.) but the wiring stuff makes me hesitant. Any input for guys who have done this already? Or if there is anyone local who would want to help out and I'd pay them. I would appreciate the feedback!

Thanks,

Internal wiring isn't hard, just requires patients. Are your cables long enough or will you have to swap them? I doubt that you're going to be able to find a shop that's going to be a ton cheaper, the problem is it's not hard work, it's time-consuming so it's all about the shop/hr rate which usually doesn't vary much, at least by me.

I would give it a try yourself, you can always fall back on dealer fixing your screw ups...
Check out John Maxwell on youtube, he is a harley tech in georgia and did a video showing how to to bars and internal wiring. Also another channel called blockhead on youtube, he has several from sporty's to dyna's.

If you can do an oil change, you can change the bars. No problem at all.

pulling wires I wrap them down the length with electrical tape if they’re not already in a sheath of some sort and use hand sanitizer as a makeshift lube to pull them thru. It naturally dries being that it has a lot of alcohol

YMMV 🤷🏻‍♂️ good luck 👍🏼

I have 14" T-bars, internally wired. It took maybe an hour and a half to have the old wires disconnected from the harness, controls off the bike, installed into the new bars, and new bars installed on bike. Do it yourself.

You'd be surprised how easy it is to wire T-bars, you'll finish and then ask yourself why you were willing to pay someone to do this.
