First off, I used the search feature to the best of my abilty to research this topic beforehand, without much luck:
13,000 miles and the front tire is really starting to show significant wear and cupping. I would like to go a pinch wider on the front to fill out the fender well. I found a Metz ME880 110/90H-19 for $99.00. Anyone runnning a slightly wider tire like this on thier 19" rims (mine are spoked)?
While I'm on the tire subject, I'm ready for my 3rd rear tire; the SE 180 is not a good choice if you have to travel on gravel daily as I do. I managed to get 5000 miles on it and it is now been reduced to a slick. I really like the look and ride of this tire but can't afford to buy 2 -3 tires each year! Metzeler also makes a 170/60-17for the rear. I can get this for$136. Anyone have arear view pic of this tire mounted on thier '06 - '07 Dyna?
Boogie,
I got the Metz 110/90H-19 up front. It actually measures about 120mm. Here's a pic:
I just put ME880's on my WG and I love them. I'll never go back to Dunlops and I've used Dunlops on bikes for 10 years. Handling in wet and cornering is great. I haven't been in a real heavy rain with them yet but I'm confident that these are great tires after a few hundred miles. People also say they have been getting more miles from the Metzlers, I guess I'll see about that.
my local dealer, whom I rarely visit anymore these days quoted me $388 Canadian (which is pretty much the same as the US dollar these days.....) for the stock Dunlop tire...no tube, strip, installation, balancing etc
I just laughed and told him I'd get in the US on my next trip. My first quote from Duluth HD in MNwas $166 for the tire...$216.00 installed...including everything. How's that for markup? This is comparing apples to apples, the canadian dealer is pretty much double on the same tire. You gotta wonder how any canadian HD dealers are doing any business at all when they're still working on a 65 cent dollar when in reality it is 96 cents compared to the US dollar. I guess you don't have to sell to many things when you're working with an exchange rate from 2 years ago...I wish I could do that in my business. Until they come back to reality I'll be ordering everything online (ebay is my friend)...actually even if they come back to reality I'll still buy everything online just out of principal. Stealerships...indeed.
I just hope my tire makes it to sturgis so I can get an even better deal.
