I thought my rear brake was dragging after a wheel install (new bearings and tires). Pulled the caliper and it was still dragging. Turns out the rotor is grazing the brake bracket on the inside. Somehow I need to shift my wheel towards the right, or get the caliper bracket to shift left.
I have the shorter axle spacer on the brake side and the longer on the left. There's only one washer, and it's under the nut.
At this point, the only variable I can see to play with is the bearings. They were installed according to the tool's, pit posse's, directions, with the left side first.
Is there something I'm missing here?
Unless someone can point me in a different direction, I'm going to nudge the bearings to the drive side in order to shift my wheel to the brake side. Is this going to ruin my new wheel bearings?
And if anyone could measure theirs, I'm curious what the space is between the swing arm and the head of a rear drive bolt is, mine is currently about 5/16". It'd be nice to have some reference.
Are these bearings toast now? They've got like 20 miles on them. I can't think of a way to remedy this without pulling them which would be force on the inner race....

That's correct ... You would only have to replace the Pulley side bearing because the brake side bearing will be pressed farther into the correct position ("Bottomed").

A lot of confusion comes from HD's use of the word "Primary" when discussing wheel bearings. It has nothing to do with the "Primary Case." "Primary Bearing" is the one that gets bottomed first in the wheel.
Multihdrdr & F86 are correct. (I knew they would be)
Upon re-reviewing the FSM is does indeed state to begin with the primary side which is the brake disc side.
I guess I just got lucky with my rear wheel because I def did the left side first. I hope this thread keeps someone else from doing it wrong.
