I want to have a Cam put in. 2011 fxdb. Probably Andrews 48 or if I go with what the shop likes, something s&s maybe 583.
Question is how deep do I have him go? Pushrods, lifters and bearings probably. Gaskets. But do I change the tensioner also. Like upgrading from spring to hydraulic? And anything else? Sorry I’m not very knowledgeable working on engines. But trying to learn.

thanks for any input.
If your guy is worth a damn he’s already planning on all of the above.
Most guys advocate for adjustable pushrods because it’s a lot less work and if you’re paying someone to do it the cost of the pushrods may actually be cheaper than the labor and seals involved with taking the rocker boxes off.

Ok, understanding. But that’s including hydraulic tensioner? Thanks.
I had a TC96 in my 2009 Ultra. Did cams at 63k, shoes were perfect, no change needed. Used adjustable pushrods to avoid having to take it all apart. Sold the bike at 90k and last I heard it was still going strong.
Sounds like you have a good plan. Inspect the tensioner shoes while it's open and maybe look in to putting in a higher pressure relief valve spring for the cam plate.
