I’m thinking about purchasing a 06 dyna here on Maui. He says it has a 5 speed transmission. I thought dynas went to 6 speed in 06. Was the 6 speed a option?
Is the 06 model a good one ? Anything I need to worry about?
I’ve had a bunch of sportsters and they’ve been great just looking to move on up.

You should verify the model year by the VIN, compare it to the one on the title.
There were a couple of issues related to the 06's. Inner primary bearing and the rotor for the charging system. Many have already been resolved but be aware of the problem.
Am I correct in thinking that the cam chain tensioner issue was only resolved from the 2007 model year on? I'd hate anyone to find they need to upgrade the tensioners the hard way.

The 06 did have the hydraulic cam chain tensioners. Primary mating can cause ipb issues, but if it has a 5 speed it is an 05 or lower
So easy to differentiate the ‘05 and the ‘06 and up’s. ‘06 was the redesign. First year for 6 speed but still had tc88. ‘07 was first year for tc96. Back on track. ‘05 still had 39mm (sportster)fork tubes excluding wide glide which had 41mm (Softail). Starting in ‘06 all dynas went to 49mm tubes including wide glide. Also remember back then model years were introduced a year prior. Mine is an 07 built and bought in 06.
