Speedometer issue 2007 FXD

If the wires were extended to the speedo then it could be as you say, but the 6 wires that goes from the throttle through your bars are the ones that were probably extended. If it is as I suspect-its the orange wire with white stripe.

After I got home, I started by removing the two rubber grommets by the frame neck. Once those were out, I fished out a connector that was attached to the "suspect" wire bundle in noticed earlier.
Everything looked ok when I pulled the connector apart, but when I reconnected it and moved the wires, the problem was still there.
So, long story short, I traced the wire bundle from the connector back to the speedometer and found a inline crimp style connector. That was causing the issue.
I removed the connector and soldered the joint back up. Problem solved!
