Has anyone with a Dyna made it to the 15000 mile mark without losing their inner primary bearing? If so, does the dealer replace it for free at 15000 miles? Will they possibly do it a little early? Thanks for the help.John.
My first went out at 7k,,The second went at 14k,, now there is a new noise coming from the primaryarea at 16k...So far dealers have taken care of it............First in Springfield Mo. Second in Wichita Ks. I dont think I want to leave Houston again till I figure out the new noise................
The dealer here says 'Oh thats just normal Harley noise' I'm wondering why it took 16k miles to start making this 'normal' noise?
My 99 low rider just turned 96,000 miles andhasn't had a problem with it "yet", and I am not known for being real easy on the throttle. not sure if they maybe changed something on the later models. I've noticed al ot of people with newer bikes complaining of this.

Thats not normal for the inner bearing....even the 06. I would have the MoCo involved on that one...
Slicknick you shouldnt have a problem. The Moco was using an inner "Timken" style bearing set when they built your bike. It shouldprobably last the life of the bike barring any major "mods" on your part.
Just researched this and the MoCo was and has said initially that would be responsible for repair replacement of this bearing every 15K. ThenI believeI heard somewhere else that they would no longer be replacing them as there were'nt supposed to be having any further problems with them. Whatever..[:'(]
Update: I checked with my local stealer and one of the big time mechs there said that the primary bearing going out is a "fluke" and he said he has only seen it twice .. In what the last month? ... yeah sure it is... because I asked him about mine.. I also asked about the Timken style replacement bearing and he said that that style of bearing is only for the left side engine case (to replace the old shovelhead style roller bearing) and not for a primary style bearing design. So I guess that means that we are stuck with HDs' crappy poorly designed part. Why cant they retro or remanufacture a better or stronger bearing??? I dont get it..
Oh BTW we were talking about this as he was telling me my stator that had just thrown craps at 6400 miles... [:@] Glad it was still under warranty...
Mine went south at 7,900, dealer got it in on Tuesday and I picked it up Saturday. I asked if it would be covered after warranty, due to the fact I will not have many more miles on it when the warranty go out, and he said he thought the moco would. We will see, will be interesting when one goes out after warranty. Rick
I just turned 15k on my 06 HDWG. Going in for service tomorrow. I am sure gonna ask about this, but I have had no problems or strange noises from the primary.
my 06 wide glide is almost two years old with about 18,500 miles on it. I've had no problems, yet, with the bearing. I asked at the 15K service if they were going to replace it and I was told no. I brought up that I had to sign some paper stating that the moco would replace it after 15k miles and they said that that was no longer the case (which I knew already since I rec'd something in the mail about a year ago stating that they no longer felt it was necessary for the replacements).
This is getting long, I know, but recently - in the last month or so - I notice that after the engine is good and hot that I get a new noise now when I put the bike in neutral and let the clutchout. It's just a noise but not something that is causing me concern at this point.
