rocklayer2, I didnt think of that, I will be doing the same when I instal later today. oh, question for you guys, does the luggage rack tab that mounts to the seat go under the seat mount, or over?
I wouldn't put the rack under the seat tab, I'd put it over the tab. The seat mounting tab has a 3/8" hole that sits down over the shoulder of the mounting post. The rack only has a 1/4" hole to provide clearance for the mounting screw. If you reverse them, the seat won't tighten down properly.
installed my rack, was a piece of cake. I ended up mounting the rack over the seat tab, it just seemed to fit better. to test it out I straped down a 15 pound bag of tools and road about 10-15 miles with it, didnt move one bit. thanks everyone for the info on the rack. Now, the search for the right bag for a 3 day trip... was thinking the large, bikers friend bag, but they are out right now. hopefully it won't take to long to restock.
I was going to get the large, but it was taking too long. I ordered the XL. The day after it shipped, they said they had some large bags in.[:@]
Has anyone else mounted an XL bag on this rack?

Bingo! I tried it both ways it was much more stable with the rack tab on top of the seat tab.I also ended up with only one thumbscrew because of the misleading web page so I just skipped it and used the big phillips screw that came with the mounting kit . It worked great, I hauled a full sized duffle up Hwy 1 to Monterey an back, roughly about 300mi of nothing but switchbacks, no problem.
