Shifter spline stripping
Anyone have a quick fix? Inserting a piece of sheet metal and crimping? Drilling through the clamp and spline bolt and Inserting a small bolt? Thanks.

Don't dick around with the shaft. Those shifters wear out, wobble around and will just wear the shaft out. Drilling a hole could make to problem worst. Just order a new shifter.

I use a longer bolt and have a nut on the end that sticks out to help with all that.

Just want to add a little helpful hint. The shaft splines; however they seem to look uniform are ever so slightly different. When the shifter is first installed, the shaft splines bite into the new shifter and make the initial spline impression. Moving the shifter to different angles positions make that impression on all the different shifter grooves. This will cause the shifter to wobble and be loose on the shaft quicker. For best results, make the shifter first position the last position. Set the shifter as you like it, then tighten it up and leave it in that position. The shaft and shifter will be lock together as one unit.
