Always wanted an FXR and then I came across this FXR4 a few years back. It's the last year they made an FXR, the last model with an EVO motor, and the 2nd year of CVO models (the 1st year was FXR2 and FXR3). It took a few years scouring the globe to find all the parts to put it back to stock. I don't ride it as much as I'd like so it's only got just over 5000 Km (3000 miles). I figure I'll pass it on to my son someday.
How it looked when found
Today
The second pic where it's back to stock is just so right! Nice bike!!!
I just found this bike for sale somewhat locally. The ad says:
"Only 24,000 miles and has been garaged. 1996 Harley FXD Dyna Superglide. The owner passed away and it has not been started in 2 years. $3,000. We will consider any serious offer".
VIN: 1HD1GHL13TY317567
1996 FXD 1996 EVO 80c.i.

Reason: added VIN #
I saw a post on craigslist for a cherry FXR4 in Jacksonville FL. Just for laughs I responded and got a long response from a suspicious email provider. Said “my son was killed in a car accident two months ago, it was his bike and I can’t stand seeing it, so I just want it gone, I’m asking $1000 to cover shipping” and on and on. I played along, saying it was worth much more then that, and if you don’t want money for it, I’ll happily donate a few thousand to a charity of your choice in you sons name. She then went on with “I just want it gone. It’s currently at a shipping company crated and ready to go. Send me your name and address and I’ll send you an eBay invoice. I want to use eBay so we are protected. once received, you will have 10 days to decide if you want to keep and if not, it will be picked up at my expense.” That was the nail in the coffin. To which I responded:
“Hi Mary. Perhaps I make it even easier for you. I’ll take a flight to Missoula, and meet you in person (anywhere you like, a local bank, police station, entirely up to you) to hand you cash payment. We can then go to the shipping company and I’ll take over from there and you can wash your hands of it.
Does that work better for you Mary?
And never heard back… I guess I should have played dumber.
The deals are still out there it seems especially for FXRs. 1994 FXR locally (2 owner cleannnn) sold for $6200.
Dynas are hot right now and the prices reflect.
Weekend before last at my local Dealership, while waiting on the girls to take the stage for the Bikini contest, I was looking at the used bike inventory. They have a very clean 2005 FXDL carbureted 88 c.i. with 6819 miles on it. I was told they just got it in, is the reason they didn't have a price on it. I went by today and asked about the bike, because I didn't see it with the other used bikes. The kid working there went to the computer and said yeah it's still here some where, I'll go find it. He came back and said it was in the back being serviced and prepped for sales. Then he said I'll check with the Sales Manager to see if we have it priced yet. When the kid came back, I was amazed when he said they're asking $9491.00 for the bike. I said thanks and left. That price is crazy for a 16 year old Dyna.
Wife has to let go of her 08 FXDL; sounds like the market is good right now. Im likely keeping my 08 FXDF for cruising. The origional FXRs Ive seen dont appeal to me style wise, especially the tank I enjoyed my FXDXT but needed something more dealer friendly for trips a long way from home. Do all USA dealers still service EVOs? Can an EVO tourer be built to 100hp?
