You need to talk to Race Tech. I would not trust TrackerDie in this situation. The point of drilling the stock damper rod is to reduce it's negative effect, and let the new valve have it's control.
One note: Don't confuse 'preload' with spring rate.
The spring is manufactured to a specific spring rate, and chosen for the weight of the bike and rider.
The 'preload' is for adjusting sag or ride height. When you are sitting on the bike, you want the 'sag' ( suspension compression ) to be in the top third of your total suspension travel. Simply put, if you have three inches of total travel, you want it to 'sag' one inch, with weight on it. You would add preload to your rear shocks for a passenger, to bring the ride height back up to one-third, to compensate for additional weight. The spring rate is still the same.
Race Tech calls for holes totaling 0.46 sq. in. The TrackerDie holes add up to 0.2 Square inches. I'd drill the four holes out to 5/16" and add two more similar to the drawing from Race Tech.
You could try contacting TrackerDie and telling them what you're trying to do. They might give you a recommended placement for the additional holes.
The 4, 1/4" holes should be fine and he guessed that's maybe what TrackerDie found worked best for their setups. But since I can't confirm with TrackerDie he suggested drilling the 4 holes out to 5/16 and I'd be good-to-go. That's what I'm going to do and start putting things back together.
My original question was if anyone had specific experience with the TrackerDie +2 damper tubes that are sold as "pre-drilled". Well, we all fell down a rabbit hole of math and conjecture, and don't get me wrong I learned a thing or 3 from you guys but after all that discussion and phone calls, and measuring and taking pictures and not working like I should be, I finally got ahold of TrackerDie. Their crew was out at the Mama Tried show so they have a skeleton crew working. Anyhow, it turns out, wait of it...they sent me the wrong damper tubes for my order, they are not pre-drilled. They're going to get the order sorted out and send me the correct part, which has 6, 5/16" holes in it.
